Red Newbrasquatch Sighting Contest

April 14, 2006   |   Comments: 02   |   Section: Contests
Red Newbrasquatch Sample

This Red Newbrasquatch is for sample purposes only. He does not count.

We promised a contest a couple of months ago, and now the time has arrived. Starting April 15 at noon (EST), a new Red Newbrasquatch will be loosed on BlobbyFarm.com each week. Scour the site and find him. Once you locate the little fellow, notify the Blobby Farmers immediately! The first person to find him each week will receive a Red Newbrasquatch, Jr. On the fourth week (May 6-12), the winner will receive a full-size Red Newbrasquatch! Here are the full details and rules:

  • Contest runs April 15 - May 12.
  • A new Red Newbrasquatch will be loosed on the site every Saturday at noon.
  • Whoever emails the Blobby Farmers with the correct location (URL and location on the page) of the Red Newbrasquatch each week wins.
  • One Red Newbrasquatch will be given away each week to whoever finds it first.
  • The Newbrasquatch you find must be red, not white, grey/brown, or black. Red.
  • Any Newbrasquatch wearing a “Sample” sign around his neck or identified as a sample in any way does not qualify. We are looking for free range Newbrasquatch.
  • A person may only win one Red Newbrasquatch through the contest. If you win once, let someone else enjoy the company of a Red Newbrasquatch.
  • The loose Red Newbrasquatch will only be found on BlobbyFarm.com, not Flickr, Atomz, or any site that we link to. If the URL does not start off with www.blobbyfarm.com, it does not count.
  • We will notify each winner within 24 hours after they submit their winning entry. Each winner’s name will be appended to this post announcing their victory and the close of the contest for the week.
  • Let the games begin!

Update 04/16/06: We have our first winner! Paul C. of Connecticut was the winner of a Red Newbrasquatch, Jr. The little rascal was hiding at the bottom of the Information page, cresting the hill over the Baron of Beef’s shoulder.

Red Newbrasquatch Sighting #1

Check back again Saturday, April 22, 2006 at noon EST for another chance to win!

Update 04/22/06: We have our second winner! Or should I say winners. Emma L., Zoe L., and Isabel A. put their brains together to find the wily Red Newbrasquatch this week. It was hiding at the feet of Jerry Bruckheimer in our Law and Order: Trial By Jerry post from May, 2005.

Red Newbrasquatch Sighting #2

There were many others who were very close to beating out the winning trio this week, so check back again Saturday, April 29, 2006 at noon EST for another chance to win!

Update 04/29/06 (7:38pm EST): We have a winner! After only seven and a half hours of diligent searching by you Red Newbrasquatch Watchers (or Newbrask-watchers if you prefer), it was uncovered by Grace on Pootan 4’s description page.

Red Newbrasquatch Sighting #3

Here’s a hint for next week: you may want to empty your browser’s cache to make sure that you are looking at the most updated images on the site. Otherwise you might find yourself looking at old images. We hope to hear from you next week (May 6, 2006 at noon EST) to win the full-size Red Newbrasquatch in our final installment of this contest.

Update 05/06/06 (7:38pm EST): We thought for sure that it would take days to find the Red Newbrasquatch this time. It wormed his way into the newly restored Blob-E-Grams and was spotted flying through the air in The Baron of Beef von Espy Finds Amoré. Congratulations to Mandy H. for her keen eye and tracking skills. She wins the full-size Red Newbrasquatch!

Thus concludes this contest. Stay tuned for future contests and opportunities to mooch free stuff from us. If you want a competitive edge over the other contestants, sign up for our mailing list (found in the column to your left). We only send things out about once a month, but you’ll be the first to know about contests, shows, and all Blobby Farm news. Thanks to everyone for participating!

Design a Blobby Contest Winners

January 7, 2006   |   Comments: 01   |   Section: Contests

The winners of the “Design a Blobby” Contest now have their designs immortalized in fleece and polyester fiberfill. At the nimble and skilled hands of the Blobby Farmer, each design was lovingly crafted in plush, then shipped off to the the winners to be placed atop their mantles (no doubt) as trophies of their well-won victory! Honorable mentions received other fabulous prizes, however we could not bring ourselves to part with our VHS copy of Solaris. Perhaps some lucky person will win it in the next contest. Thanks to all who entered. There will be another Blobby Farm contest coming up soon. Keep watching the skies!

Honorable Mentions

Hannah Hammer

Hannah Hammer by Jane C.

Hannah was born on April fourth 2004. She loves to ski, but hates the cold. Her favorite food is saimen, or, as what she calls “mainlanders” call raman noodles. She may get into your chocolate stash, but looks so ridiculus when she gets her head caught you won’t care. Warning: do not introduce her to your loving pet fish. She was born in the ocean, and would gobble up mr. fish in no time! She may be found lounging on the couch.

Pee Wee, Jr.

Pee Wee, Jr. by Isabel A.

Pee Wee has always enjoyed dancing. He started with jazz and switched to hip-hop and liked hip-hop better and joined all the clubs about hip-hop. Now Pee Wee lives in Italy and his phone number is 545-5455.

She’s a mild mannered cow by day. By night, she’s an udder cover super hero… She’s super Bovine! After a long nights work or protecting her barnyard friends, she returns to Farmer Brown to yet again meet her daily quota… milk.

Honorable Mention

Jasper Fiona

Jasper Fiona by Carly T.

Jasper doesn’t like Thanksgiving very much anymore (there was this one time when he was 6 and someone tried to make a pie out of him… it was all very traumatic). When not telling everyone who’ll listen about “The Secret Life of Bees,” he can be found down at the river, harvesting oysters. Be nice to him and he might share them with you.

Design a Blobby Contest

November 9, 2005   |   Comments: 05   |   Section: Contests

To usher in the new Blobby Farm name, site, and Blobbies, we are launching the inaugural Blobby Farm contest! The “Design a Blobby” Contest is open to all ages and abilities. Test your hand at designing your very own Blobby. Details are as follows:

Body

Step 1: Draw your Blobby. You may draw your Blobby by hand or render it on the computer, whatever suits you. Just remember that Blobbies are very simple — two uneven eyes, a mouth, some nubs, and a few accents, and that’s about it.

Body

Step 2: Give your Blobby a name and a history. Your Blobby must have a backstory — something goofy and short to explain who they are and what they like to do. This is what makes your Blobby tick. After you’ve done this, put your drawing, the Blobby’s name, and its history together and email your submission to

by December 1, 2005. You may also snail mail your entries to the Blobby Farm (click here for the address). Don’t forget to tell us your name and age.

Body

Step 3: The Blobby Farmers convene and consider all the new Blobby applicants. Putting their super-genius minds together, they separate the wheat from the chaff (as it were). Winners will be selected in four age categories: Ages 0-5; 6-12; 13-18; 19 and up. The winners in each age category will have their designs receive the spark of life! The winning designs will be fleshed out in fleece and felt — taking a tangible form. Mwah-ha-ha!

Body

Step 4: After a short period of time, the winners will receive the Blobby they designed in all its three-dimensional glory via the US Postal Service. Their Blobby will be featured on the site, and all the world will bow to the glory of the winners. Runners-up will receive other fabulous prizes that we will dig out of our junk drawers here at the Blobby Farm.

In summary, submissions are due by December 1, 2005.

Winners are chosen in four age categories, and winners receive a Blobby, Jr. based on their design. Runners-up receive other things. Now read the fine print.

The Fine Print: All submissions become the property of Blobby Farm and will not be returned. Blobby Farm retains the right to reproduce designs, but will always give the designer credit.

Blobby designers are required to have fun while designing their Blobby. All designers who labor under a cloud of misery and woe will have their design rejected from the contest under article 1237-Z, thereby worsening their misery and woe. A vicious cycle of depression will ensue. Beware.

Conquerers of Coloring!

March 8, 2005   |   Comments: 00   |   Section: Contests

I am pleased to announce the winners of the Blobby Coloring Contest (after an excruciating judging process)! Winners are being notified, and will be receiving their prizes shortly. Peruse the Coloring Gallery to see all the amazing entries, and feel free to add your personal comments and congratulations to all the colorers.

In the 0-5 years category, First Place goes to Leif B., and Extraordinarily Honorable Mentions to Elsie G. and Caleb C.

  • Leif’s piece displays an energetic focus on single entities of color that take on a life beyond the characters on the page while creating a sort of community with those characters.
  • Elsie’s fine and delicate layering of colors gesture toward the inner turmoil of the figures wrestling not only with each other, but quietly with their own sense of self-worth.
  • Caleb’s strong marks declare their independence from the imposed subject matter in a flippant yet firm way supported by the balance of his composition.

In the 6-12 years category, First Place goes to Issiah D., with Exceptionally Honorable Mentions to Jamarrian T. and Emma L.

  • Issiah’s raw, aggressive mark-making, additive and subtractive methods, and bold use of black are a victory of wrestling relevance.
  • Jamarrian’s work is characterized by a creative and liberal interpretation of the boundaries of color and original lines.
  • In Emma’s piece, the decorative embellishments are almost baroque in their attitude toward their brutish surroundings.
  • For the 13-18 years category, First Place goes to Emily L., with an Incredibly Honorable Mention to Jenny S.

  • A clean, uniform direction of the marks betray the sheer whimsey behind Emily’s color choice and an appreciation of Blobbies.
  • Jenny is not afraid of displaying the naked, blank page and wields her crayon with a tactful, soft touch.

In the 19+ years category, First Place goes to Stacza L., with FREAKISHLY Honorable Mentions to Kathryn X. B. and Kylie G.

  • Stacza’s repetition of shapes existent within the coloring page show a commitment to the unity of her elements.
  • Kathryn’s masterful addition of spectators supplies an emotional and visual depth to the picture plane.
  • Kylie’s technological savvy produces a field of pattern and color tricking the eye into a push-pull tug-o-war with the spatial qualities of the image.

Thanks and congratulations to all the participants in the contest!
